The
Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE)
is the National Apex Body of Professional Engineers dedicated to promote
the Art, Science and Technology of Electronics, Communication Engineering,
Information Technology and allied areas. The IETE has 38 local centres
spread over India. The Bangalore centre of institution is one of the most
active centres of IETE. Bangalore centre has won IETE Council special
award for outstanding technical performance during 1996-97 and best centre
award for the years 1997-98, 1998-99, 1999, 2000 and 2000-01.
IEEE,
the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, is the
world's largest technical professional society, founded in 1884 by a handful
of practitioners of the new electrical engineering discipline. Today's
Institute comprises more than 325,000 members. Our vision is to advance
global prosperity by fostering technological innovation, promoting members'
careers, and building-up technical community worldwide. The IEEE offers
a sense of community worldwide by providing opportunities for engineers
to share mutual professional, technical and personal interests with others
who enjoy similar interests around the world.
IEE
founded in 1871, the Institute of Electrical Engineers is the
largest professional engineering society in Europe and has a worldwide
membership of just under 140,000. The vision of the IEE is to be the best
Engineering Institution in the world. IEE represents the profession of
electrical, electronic manufacturing and systems engineering and related
sciences and acts as the voice of the profession in matters of public
concern besides setting related standards, accrediting degree courses
in subjects relevant to IEE, awards and scholarships and many more activities
in professional developments.
The
Society of Electronic Engineers (SEE) was established in 1956
to provide a national forum for practicing electronic and communication
engineers. A pioneer professional institution, the SEE is dedicated to
the furtherance of electronics. It also offers a common platform for exchanging
and imparting of contemporary knowledge and information on electronics
and allied disciplines. The objectives are: To promote amongst its members
an abiding interest in electronics and related areas of science and engineering;
To associate with similar institutions to further the objectives of SEE;
To encourage its members to make original contributions to the science
and technology. The society is a member of PROFICIENCE body, an Organisation
devoted to offer continuing education and special professional courses.
SEE's quarterly journal Electro Technology (ET) contains well-researched
articles by its members and others.
Bharat
Electronics Limited (BEL) is a Government of India undertaking
set up under the Ministry of Defence. BEL was established in 1954 in Bangalore,
primarily to meet the strategic defence electronics needs of the country.
Since its inception, BEL has been noted for its pioneering achievements
in the manufacture of Professional Electronic Equipments, Systems and
Electronic Components. Evolving out of work culture with continuous emphasis
on Quality, the Company's growth into a multi-technology, multi-Product,
multi-Unit enterprise amply demonstrates its leadership and expertise.
Nine manufacturing units are located at Bangalore, Ghaziabad, Panchkula,
Kotdwara, Pune, Tajola, Hyderabad, Chennai and Machilipatnam. The BEL
has been producing Radars for the past three decades. The Search, Tracking,
Navigation, Fire Control and Instrumentation Radars are manufactured and
supplied to different defence, space and meteorological departments.
DRDO,
the major organisational constituent of Ministry of Defence was established
in 1958 by amalgamating the Defence Science Organisation and Technical
Development Establishments. The Department of Defence Research and Development
was setup as a separate Department in the Ministry of Defence in 1980.
In addition to the R&D activities undertaken within the DRDO laboratories,
the Department also functions as the implementing agency for the execution
of major weapon system development programmes through creative co-operation
between DRDO, national S&T agencies and public sector undertakings.
The DRDO has made significant contributions to national security in variety
of disciplines such as aeronautics, armaments, combat vehicles, electronics,
explosives, naval technologies and rockets and missiles. DRDO has helped
the nation to become self-reliant in many critical areas of defence technologies.
Hindustan
Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is a pioneer Asian Aerospace Industry
with capabilities spanning the entire range of activities from product
conception, design, manufacture and after sales support. The company has
produced over 2400 aircraft of various types and over thousand types of
Accessories / Avionics. HAL is a major public sector undertaking under
Ministry of Defence, Government of India having 13 production divisions
supported by 7 Research and Development Centres. HAL, Hyderabad Division
is located in the capital of Andhra Pradesh, Hyderabad. It has proven
strength in independent Design, Development, Production and Servicing
of Avionics, Radar Systems including GCA Radars. The division has produced
various Avionics Systems for all the Defence Aircrafts manufactured in
the country. The list of satisfied customers include Indian Airforce,
Indian Navy, Coast Guard, Indian Army and various State Police Departments.
HAL, Hyderabad Division has got the state-of-the-art Expertise and Infrastructure
to satisfy various customer requirements. The division is accredited with
ISO 9001, International Quality Standards.
Indian
Space Research Organisation (ISRO) of the Department of Space,
Government of India is in the fore-front of Space Technology, developing
indigenously space crafts (Satellites), launch vehicle systems and ground
systems for mission support. Radar development in ISRO was started by
late Dr Vikram A.Sarabai in the year 1970 to design and develop radars
to provide tracking support for the satellite launch vehicle mission SLV-3,
from Sriharikota range of ISRO. Apart from the C-Band radars developed,
which successfully met the targeted performance, ISRO has developed, jointly
with BEL, Bangalore, the Precision Coherent Mono Pulse C-Band (PCMC) radars.
These Radars represent the state-of-the-art in instrumentation radar systems.
ISRO's support to Space Sciences in general and Aeronomy in particular
led to the design and establishment of a Mesosphere, Stratosphere and
Troposphere Radar (MST Radar) as a National Facility for atmospheric sciences
at Gadanki near Tirupathi. Indian MST radar is rated as the 2nd largest
among such atmospheric radars in the world. Due to this excellent tradition
in Radar development, IMD-DST has entered into a Memorandum of understanding
with ISRO for the design, development and commissioning of Doppler Weather
Radar for Indian Meteorological Department. The Radar Development in ISRO
took advantage of the existing know-how in different technologies like
high voltage engineering, high precision mechanical fabrication, Antenna
and Servo Technology available in different National laboratories, R&D
institutions and industrial units both in Private and Public sector.
